Barca di Venetia per Padova

La Barca di Venetia per Padova (1605), also known as the Comedia Harmonica by Bolognese Adriano Banchieri, is a fine representation of a brief but significant season of madrigal “oddities” which dealt with insignificant episodes from daily life that were strongly contaminated by elements presumed to come from the commedia dell’arte – or were explicitly grotesque and more or less pre-fabricated in terms of narrative. These oddities forced the nobility of the “superior” madrigal to include elements which were lighter, more realistic, and comic, for the Diletto Moderno (Modern Pleasure) – which is still quite relevant today.
